Joint Providership

Joint Providership is the sponsorship of a CE activity by two or more institutions or organizations when only one of the institutions or organizations is accredited. It is an opportunity to significantly expand the availability of accredited CE by collaborating with non-accredited organizations and is open only to those organizations that have a relationship with Piedmont, e.g. a Piedmont affiliated physician (employed or a member of the Piedmont Clinic) who is on the planning committee for a professional society planning an annual conference.

Prior to entering into a Joint Providership, the organization requesting Joint Providership will be required to provide their recent accreditation and activity history. Any organization failing to provide this information will be ineligible for Joint Providership.

In those cases which meet this criteria, Piedmont Healthcare may enter into a written agreement, a JOINT PROVIDER AGREEMENT, with the appropriate individuals from the organization(s) involved. This agreement will define the financial obligations as well as the roles and responsibilities.

Piedmont Healthcare holds full responsibility for compliance with the CE requirements for every activity it designates for credit, and thus applies the same standards to jointly provided activities as to those it directly offers, including those regarding content validation. The educational activities must be planned, implemented, and documented according to the criteria of the ACCME’s Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education.

  1. An ineligible entity cannot take the role of non-accredited partner in a joint providership relationship.
  2. Jointly provided activities must be consistent with Piedmont Healthcare CE mission and purpose statements.
  3. Joint Providers are prohibited from engaging in any unapproved promotional or marketing activities such as gift cards or other high-value incentives.
  4. Piedmont Healthcare has the right to withdraw accreditation from any activity at any time without penalty if the joint provider fails to meet its obligations as described in the Joint Providership Agreement or fails to comply with Piedmont Healthcare CE policies and procedures.
  5. All activity expenses are the responsibility of the organization seeking joint providership.
  6. Piedmont Healthcare must review and approve all marketing materials such as flyers, brochures, web sites, emails, and any other materials associated with the activity prior to their release. All printed materials must carry the appropriate accreditation statement. Once these materials have been reviewed and approved, no further changes can be made without the express written approval of Piedmont Healthcare. Failure to comply with this will result in withdrawal of accreditation for any activities.
  7. A final report indicating income from exhibit/advertising, registration fees, government grants, and other sources of income for the jointly provided activity is required.
  8. Grant or in-kind support from ineligible companies is not permitted.
  9. Piedmont Healthcare will charge a fee for its joint providership services. These fees and the terms for its payment will be mutually agreed upon and delineated in the Joint Provider Agreement between Piedmont Healthcare and the joint/co-sponsor. In the event that Piedmont Healthcare withdraws accreditation for any reason for an activity at any time, this fee is non-refundable.
