Overview
The Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) course, offered through Piedmont Healthcare in partnership with the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), is ideal for healthcare providers currently working or aspiring to work in critical care. This comprehensive course lays a solid foundation in critical care, enabling non-intensivists to manage critically ill patients effectively for the first 24 hours, until specialized support or transfer is arranged. Course Structure and Requirements: Course Access: Once registered, you will gain access to SCCM's online FCCS modules, which feature core lectures, engaging scenarios, and case-based skills practice. Lectures: Provided by experienced Piedmont Critical Care PAs and NPs. Customized to best serve the Piedmont ICU system. Skills Stations: In-person interactive skills stations including hands-on time with BiPAP machines and mechanical ventilation. We also utilize the Simman 3G to complete dynamic airway scenarios. Assessment: To qualify for the FCCS completion certificate, you must complete the in-person lecture sessions, participate in the skills stations, and achieve a minimum score of 70% on the post-test. Learning Outcomes: Upon completing the FCCS course, you will be able to: Prioritize and conduct critical assessments for acutely ill patients. Select and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests. Recognize and manage significant changes in unstable patients. Identify life-threatening conditions and implement appropriate interventions. Determine when expert consultation or patient transfer is required and ensure the patient is well-prepared for the transfer. Certificate of Completion: After successfully completing the course, you will receive an FCCS certificate issued by SCCM and CME issued through Piedmont Healthcare.
