Human Trafficking in Healthcare: Recognition, Response and Resource Navigation (10/1/2026)

This multidisciplinary educational activity will provide healthcare professionals with current evidence, practical screening strategies, trauma-informed approaches, and community resources to improve the recognition and response to human trafficking in healthcare settings. Participants will explore the role of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in identifying potential victims, initiating appropriate interventions, and facilitating access to support services and referral resources.

1. Describe the prevalence of human trafficking and identify common clinical, behavioral, and environmental indicators associated with trafficking victims encountered in healthcare settings
2. Apply trauma-informed assessment, screening, and communication strategies when caring for patients who may be experiencing human trafficking or exploitation.
3. Integrate organizational policy, referral pathways, and interprofessional team roles to ensure a coordinated and appropriate response to suspected human trafficking cases.

In support of improving patient care, Piedmont Healthcare is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
